CAPWHN CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health Nurses (CAPWHN) in collaboration with The Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses (CANN) invites nurses and other health professionals in perinatal, neonatal, and women’s health who are members, non-members, and students to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2026 CAPWHN Annual Clinical, Education, Research Conference to be held on October 1-2, 2026.

  • Abstracts for oral and poster presentations are welcome in either English or French.
  • All abstracts are peer reviewed.
  • All accepted abstract presenters must register for the CAPWHN National Conference and pay their own expenses (conference fees, travel, accommodation, etc.), whether or not they plan to attend any of the conference itself.

 

Conference Theme:  

Reaching New Heights in Perinatal, Neonatal, and Women’s Health

 

Conference Objectives:  

         1. Promote Excellence in Clinical Practice Across the Lifespan

      • Share evidence-based strategies that advance perinatal & neonatal health areas such as family-centred care, healthy beginnings, mental health and well-being.
      • Present evidence‑based strategies in women’s health that advance areas such as contraception, menopause, endometriosis, heart disease, and mental health.
      • Address disparities in care with an intersectional and trauma-informed care lens in underserved communities.
      • Explore innovations such as telehealth, artificial intelligence, and digital tools that enhance care across the lifespan.

   

      2.  Advance Leadership and Advocacy

      • Advocate for systemic changes addressing social determinants of health and intersectional inequities across the lifespan.
      • Equip nurses to lead policy and advocacy efforts that advance equitable, trauma-informed care across all life stages.
      • Highlight leadership pathways for nurses in clinical, academic, and policy settings.

 

           3. Enhance Education and Professional Development

      • Integrate intersectionality, cultural safety, and trauma-informed principles into nursing education.
      • Provide innovative strategies for teaching perinatal, neonatal, and women’s health.
      • Address workforce sustainability, mentorship, and ongoing professional growth.

   

        4. Foster Research, Quality Improvement, and Knowledge Translation

      • Highlight research and quality improvement initiatives focused on perinatal, neonatal, and women’s health.
      • Present community-based participatory research with diverse populations.
      • Translate findings into practice and policy to improve outcomes across the lifespan.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Please note the following:

  • Abstracts are limited to 300 words (excluding title, authors, affiliations, and the additional information regarding objectives/conference theme alignment).
  • Abstracts are accepted for presentations in English or French.
  • DEADLINE for abstract submission is March 27th at 11:59 PM PST. Please follow the instructions carefully. Incorrect, incomplete or late abstracts will not be reviewed.
  • Following the submission deadline, abstracts will undergo a peer review process with author names and identifying information omitted. The abstract content should not contain identifying information.
  • The corresponding author will be notified via e-mail of the results of the review process by the end of June 2026.
  • Posters should be no larger than 42 x 90 inches

**We encourage you to discuss your attendance at the conference with your supervisor prior to submission.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Title: should be brief and clearly indicate the nature of the abstract/presentation.
  • Abstract submissions will be a maximum of 300 words and must include the purpose, three (3) learning objectives, and a brief description of the presentation and how it aligns with the conference theme and objectives. Identifying information must not be in the text of the abstract.
  • Research abstracts should include study purpose, methods (design, sample, procedures), main findings and conclusions with implications for nursing practice. Please specify whether the project is completed or if it is work-in progress.
  • Quality improvement (Innovation and change) abstracts should include background of the issue, motivation for innovation or change, and the process of developing, implementing, and evaluating the innovation or change including implications for nursing practice.
  • Knowledge translation (best practice) abstracts should include a review of what is currently known about a topic, a description of the implementation process, and the implications for nursing practice.
  • Clinical case abstracts should include a description of a challenging/interesting case scenario, an overview of the issue, and the implications for nursing practice.

Learning Objective Requirements:

Learning objectives must be submitted with the perspective of the session participant in mind; each typically includes an action that is measurable, and which demonstrates learning (e.g., “Following this session, participants will be able to identify the key requirements for …”).
